Yankees Blanket Instructions

I've never written out a pattern for others before so hopefully this will make sense!!  Any suggestions or questions are welcomed so I can fine tune the pattern!

This pattern requires some planning ahead!!

Thankfully when I set out to do this there were already a few videos on YouTube that helped me figure out how I was going to make my blanket.  I took ideas from both Groundhog Peggy and Bethintx1 how to videos and married them together so to speak ;)  I'll attach links to these videos so you can see how to do them yourself. No sense in me recording my own and reinventing the wheel, besides I'm sure these ladies will do a much better job of explaining it than I can!!

I did a few things different from her like the sc, dc, sc pattern I did in hdc, hdc.  You can use whatever stitch you want, I just like the look of hdc. And I didn't carry my yarn throughout.  I'll explain the stitch pattern more in a minute.

But back to not carrying the yarn this is where Bethintx1's video came in handy.  Instead of wasting my yarn and potentially having it show thru my work I dropped it instead and just picked it up again on the next row.  I think she calls it intarsia? Here's her video on how to do that, again I only used this video to show me how to change/drop/pick up colors not on reading the graph because my graph was not symmetrical like hers.

On her video she is working on a small piece and just made small balls of yarn but because I was doing a large blanket I made sure to buy enough full skeins of yarn and used the full skeins instead of making smaller balls.

As for my graph here is a link to the one I used

Yankees Logo Chart

I modified the graph slightly eliminating the lightly shaded boxes and either making them my main color of grey or logo color of navy depending on how I wanted it to look.

I also decided I wanted more of a grey edge around the logo than the graph called for so I added 8 rows on the top and 8 rows on the bottom and 14 stitches on each side.


For my blanket I decided to use
Loops and Threads Charisma in Navy and Dark Grey
P Hook


Count your graph stitches.  Each box on the graph actually looks like this    HDC HDCthis direction

With main color Chain 126

Row 1 HDC in 3rd chain from hook and in each chain across.  Chain 2.  Turn

Row 2 - ? (how ever many rows you want) HDC in each HDC across.

Row 12 for whatever reason I worked my graph reading right to left so with my "tail" from my chain on my right I started the first row of the logo.  Remember that each box is 2 HDC in one direction and 2 HDC in the other direction.  On my graph I HDC the 14 stitches I added and then there are 8 boxes (16 hdc) before I get to the logo.  So I 30 HDC and then dropped the grey and picked up navy for 2 hdc before dropping that and joining a new grey for 62 HDC.  Drop that grey and pick up new navy for another 2 HDC, drop and join another new grey for 30 HDC.  Chain 2. Turn.

Row 13 look at your graph and go back reading left to right.  For this row it will be a repeat of row 12.  Chain 2. Turn.

Continue this pattern of reading the graph for a total of 120 rows.

At the end of the pattern I added a SC border around the edge in Navy.


I hope this has made some sense!!!  After trying to write it all out I'm finding it confusing lol!!!  I'm sure I'll have to look over it again tomorrow and try and decipher what I have written :D
